Team News

City

Pep Guardiola has revealed that Oleksandr Zinchenko and Rodrigo are set to be sidelined for the next month.

Ukrainian international Zinchenko underwent surgery on his left knee in Barcelona earlier this week and the boss said he is expected to return in ‘between four and five weeks.’

Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte remain long-term absentees.

Aston Villa

James Chester is available for the first time this season, while Jonathan Kodjia and Kortney Hause return to contention.

Villa’s only absentee is Jota (hernia).

Pep Guardiola Preview

“(Aston Villa have) team spirit, their quality up-front. Wesley is an incredibly strong striker.

“They’re newly promoted and they’re getting good results. It looks like a good environment.”

Last Time Out

An eleven-minute Raheem Sterling hattrick helped Manchester City make it three wins from three Champions League matches as they beat Atalanta 5-1 at the Etihad.

The visitors took the lead from the spot just after the half-hour mark, but City responded with a Sergio Aguero brace to go in 2-1 ahead at the break.

Sterling then took centre-stage with a scintillating second-half performance to maintain our 100% start in Group C.

Aston Villa come into the game buoyed by a late 2-1 win at home to ten-man Brighton on Saturday, with Matt Targett claiming a 94th minute winner for Dean Smith’s side.

Last Meeting

The two sides last met in March 2016, with four goals in eighteen second-half minutes seeing Manchester City cruise to a 4-0 win at the Etihad.

Yaya Toure opened the scoring for City soon after the half-time break, before a Sergio Aguero brace and close-range Raheem Sterling strike saw us cruise to victory.
