City were too slick and clinical for a poor Milan side who were left chasing shadows as they fell 4-0 behind with just 26 minutes played and the Italians have now lost their opening two ICC matches.
Played in the balmy heat of Pittsburgh, heavy rain and a fierce electrical storm threatened to see the match abandoned at half-time, but an extended break saw the teams re-emerge some 20 minutes later than planned, much to the delight of the 34,347 crowd.
City looked sharp from the off and the only surprise was that it took 11 minutes to open the scoring with Jesus Navas playing Stevan Jovetic behind the static Milan defence before the Montenegrin drilled home a low drive that gave Agazzi no chance.
Barely two minutes later Gael Clichy picked out Scott Sinclair who teed himself up before placing the ball high past the keeper to double the Blues’ advantage. And there was more to come.
On 23 minutes Navas watched a deep cross fall onto his right-foot and his shot deflected past the hapless Agazzi to make it 3-0 and when Kelechi Iheanachi made it 4-0 three minutes later, the game seemed to eerily be repeating events a year back in Munich where the Blues raced into a five-goal lead with 35 minutes played in the Allianz Arena.
But the next goal didn’t go City’s way as Sulley Muntari reduced arrears just before the break to give the Italians the merest glimmer of light.
Former City favourite Mario Balotelli emerged for the second-half but when Jovetic cleverly stepped past one challenge before deftly chipping the ball over the keeper just before the hour-mark, it was game, set and match.
Mario did have the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside and there was still time for two Milan fans to run on and take a selfie with the-City striker just before full-time which had the crowd in raptures.
Next up for City is Liverpool on Wednesday where a stiffer test surely awaits at Yankee Stadium.
