Manuel Pellegrini’s side were by no means at full tilt in the humid Hanoi heat, but they were still far too powerful for the Vietnamese XI.
Aleks Kolarov ran through his set piece repertoire, scoring from a free-kick and penalty, while new boy Raheem Sterling continued his excellent start in a blue shirt by adding a brace of his own.
David Silva (two), Marcos Lopes and Jose Angel Pozo completed the scoring to sign off City’s July trip in consummate style.
The locals - who have given City such a rapturous welcome during this last leg of the tour - did have something to cheer in the 90th minute when Nguyễn Văn Quyết chipped the ball over substitute goalkeeper Willy Caballero to turn up the volume in the stadium.
So ends City’s pre-season tour of Australia and Vietnam, which took in victories over Adelaide United, Melbourne City and Roma, plus the defeat to Real Madrid, and the players now jet back to Manchester before a weekend assignment in Stuttgart.
As it has for most of the tour, City’s line-up contained a blend of youth and experience as boss Pellegrini juggles his players’ minutes in the build up to the season opener against West Brom.
After the lengthy pre-match ceremonies City didn’t hang about too long to take the lead.
Impressive young midfielder Manu Garcia was fouled just outside the box and Kolarov’s placed shot found the net after Tô Vĩnh Lợi wrongly second-guessed the Serbian.
Eight minutes later Sterling double the lead to continue his flying City start. Silva surged forward, managed to lay the ball off under pressure from the Vietnamese defence and Sterling pinged the ball into the far corner without breaking stride.
It was soon three, and this time Silva got himself on the scoresheet, converting the rebound after his own header bounced back off the bar.
Bar the odd counter attack City were in total control, with Garcia slicing a couple of shots wide, and the fourth duly arrived.
Sterling scored it, latching onto Kelechi’s through ball to find the net with a smart reverse finish.
Văn Quyết did force Joe Hart into rare action just before the break but that proved brief respite.
Five minutes after the restart City were awarded a penalty after Sterling went down in the box, with Kolarov stepping up to slam home from the spot.
Silva added his second of the night, running onto Sterling’s pass to dink the ball in, and that proved to be the Spaniard’s last contribution of the game.
A raft of City substitutes gave the visitors fresh impetus and one of them, Lopes, got his goal after his shot squirmed under substitute keeper Nguyễn Thanh Diệp.
Lopes turned provider to set up Pozo for City’s eighth, the Spaniard finishing neatly on the angle.
There was still time for the home side to cheer a consolation effort from Văn Quyết, but for City it is back to rainy Manchester for a brief pitstop before Saturday’s trip to Stuttgart.
