If the PFA Player of the Year was announced tomorrow, Fernandinho would win the coveted prize according to the Manchester Evening News’ Stuart Brennan.

You won’t find any City fans disagreeing with that opinion with the Brazilian in masterful form for the Blues.

One of the Club’s unsung heroes, Ferna’s fine start to the new campaign was underlined with a stunning display against Sevilla and Brennan today pays tribute to the midfielder.

“Fernandinho is the best player in the Premier League right now,” writes Brennan. “And if the worthies who conduct the player of the year awards were to run their polls tomorrow, the Brazilian SHOULD be a shoo-in to lift the individual honours.

Fernandinho

“Of course, he wouldn’t, as the PFA and the Football Writers Association seem to have a pretty neglectful attitude towards Manchester City.

“The challenge now for Fernandinho is to maintain the consistency and game-changing excellence he has shown so far – that way his fellow professionals and the sports scribblers would not be able to ignore him.

“His performance in Seville showed exactly why City were prepared to stump up £30million for a player who had most fans asking “Who?” when their interest became apparent.”

Well said, Stuart and the feature in its entirety is well worth reading.

There’s not a great deal of interesting stuff around in all honesty today apart from a Cristiano Ronaldo non-story that’s not worth covering in any depth.

And the saga that ran all summer linking Paul Pogba to City has not completely gone away, with the France star expressing his affection for Juventus.

‘Juve are the first team where I started to play,’ Pogba said in the Express. ‘They’re the team who allowed me to go to the national team, the team where I scored my first goal, so now they’re the club of my heart.’

‘They let me prove myself in football, and had the confidence in me to put me on the pitch.’

“The France midfielder, who joined Juventus from Manchester United in 2012, insists he loves the club 100%. Pogba has been linked with a move away from Turin with Chelsea, Manchester City and Barcelona all interested.”

On the international front, it seems Yaya Toure is still pondering his international future after being left out of the latest Ivory Coast squad.

African Football report:  “As they prepare for their upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire coach Michel Dussuyer has included Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony in his squad.

“The Elephants manager has announced his 24-man squad for the two legged clash on Thursday, however, the biggest surprise is Bony’s clubmate, Yaya Toure’s absence in the squad.

‘We have to get past this round and that is what we’re going to try and do against Liberia, who are respectable opponents,’ said Dussuyer.”

Finally, former Arsenal and Aston Villa midfielder Paul Merson has delivered his prediction for Sunday’s clash between City and Villa.

The Sky Sports pundit says: ‘To start with this is already a tough game for Villa, add that to the fact they’re struggling and I can’t see anything but a City win.

‘Villa might probably keep it tight for a while but they are lacking the spark and City head into the game on the back of an unbelievable result against Sevilla.

‘Remi Garde has a lot of work to do and there are a lot of hard games in front of Villa. They could soon be cut adrift, that’s the worrying thing.’”
