Debutant Gabriel Jesus created City’s first for Raheem Sterling to finish while Leroy Sane doubled the lead for Pep Guardiola’s side in the second half.
The Independent’s Jack Pitt-Brooke enjoyed what he saw from all three: “Sane, Sterling and Gabriel tore Palace apart, combining for City’s brilliant first two goals, before Yaya Toure capped it off with a brilliant free-kick at the end.
“They all played with imagination, skill, but above all with pace, providing exactly the type of threat Guardiola wants from his forwards. Guardiola hailed them post-match as the “future” of the club, and it was easy to imagine watching them that this could be City’s front line for the next 10 years.”
Writing for Goal, Sam Lee focused on the trio: “As against Arsenal in the Premier League last month it was Raheem Sterling, 22, and Leroy Sane, 21, who did the damage for City in a competitive FA Cup fourth-round clash at Selhurst Park.
“With Sergio Aguero not fully fit, the coach let Gabriel Jesus, the extremely promising 19-year-old signed this month, off the leash with Sane and Sterling either side of him.
“Jesus worked hard and showed flashes of his talent in an almost clichéd introduction to life in English football, battling for aerial balls and riding mistimed challenges in - for much of the second half - biblical hail.”
While Simon Bajkowski of the MEN gave his thoughts on Jesus’ first City appearance: “After all the plaudits from every Brazilian footballer you’ve ever heard of, it was almost a surprise not to see Jesus score a hat-trick stood on his head.
“Promisingly for City though, the Brazilian looks to have enough intelligence to improvise when things aren’t going his way.
“Having been well shackled in the first half, he dropped deeper to set Raheem Sterling free for the opener.
“The England man returned the favour minutes later but Wayne Hennessey saved well; a partnership between Jesus and Sterling sounds very exciting indeed.”
Finally, as it is January, it wouldn’t be a Sunday morning without a transfer rumour. The Daily Star believes City are tracking Benfica goalkeeper Ederson.
Paul Hetherington writes: “The Brazilian keeper, 23, was seen by City as a £20million target.
“And City, like neighbours United, were also watching Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford, 22, until he was ruled out with injured.”
