There are some familiar faces featured in the tales of potential arrivals – Joshua Kimmich and Isco.
According to ClubCall: “Manchester City are ready to battle with Barcelona for the signature of Bayern Munich full-back Joshua Kimmich in January.
“City boss Pep Guardiola is blessed with right-backs after spending over £70million to secure the services of Kyle Walker and Danilo in the summer, but that is not stopping suggestions he wants Kimmich as well.
“Guardiola knows the Germany international well from his time in charge of Bayern Munich and is keen to be reunited with him at the Etihad Stadium.
“However, City will face strong competition from Barcelona who are also keen to strike deal despite the fact Nelson Semedo is starring for them in defence.
“There is also another big stumbling block as reports claim Bayern have no intention of letting Kimmich move on either in January or at the end of the season.
“It is claimed that both City and Barca could test the water with offers in the region of £44million.”
Meanwhile, on Isco, James Nalton of ESPN reports: “The Real Madrid playmaker continues to attract glances from across Europe, despite having signed a new contract last month, and Pep Guardiola reportedly believes he can entice the Spaniard to the Premier League.
“The 25-year-old, who has become an important player for the European champions under Zinedine Zidane, could make a move next summer, and he’s a player much admired by the City manager.”

Quoted in the Manchester Evening News, the defender declared: “At City senior level the standard is so high.
“The manager knows when the right time is to put his youth players in. Phil [Foden]’s time will come. Pep’s a great judge of knowing when it’s right to do so.
“Nothing changes even though we have won the World Cup.
“We have to keep working hard, improving and getting better. It’s really important that this is just the start of things.
“But if you look at the Premier League, there are so many young English players getting their chance now. We are seeing the future of England being produced. It’s encouraging.
“Nobody wants to be forgotten, but it’s so exciting to be a part of a team that can hopefully go on together and a few years down the line hopefully this group can achieve something.”
