First to The Mirror, who are running the story that Borrusia Dortmund holding midfielder Julian Weigl, 22, is attracting admiring glances from the Premier League.
“Pep Guardiola is in the market for a shield in front of his back four and the German international is on his radar,” writes Neil Moxley.
“Weigl has already amassed over 130 senior appearances having started out as a teenager with Munich 1860.
“But he has come on leaps and bounds at Dortmund and has forced his way into the German national side.
“Weigl possesses a lot of the attributes Guardiola values and, just as importantly, is of the right age profile.“However, he will not come on the cheap and Dortmund will be unwilling to listen to any offers until the hit the £40m-mark.”
Meanwhile, Weigl’s compatriot Timo Werner has been widely quoted on potential destinations for his future.
“It would be a lie to say in England you’d not like to play for Manchester United or Manchester City,” the RB Leipzig striker, 21, said.
“If you take Germany, it would be a lie to say that you would not like to play for Bayern.
“Spain – Barca or Real. There are great clubs in every league. Italy or France would not be my leagues, but the other three.
“There are so many clubs you’d like to play for. I don’t want to tie myself down.”
Finally, ahead of City’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Wigan Athletic on Monday night, Wigan boss Paul Cook says that his side believe they can negotiate their way past City and into the quarter-final.
“I know the club were a Premier League side at the time of the fixture in 2013 so it was probably a little bit more of an even playing field back then, but it was a game nobody gave Wigan Athletic a chance in,” the manager told the Latics’ official website.
“Football has a funny way of sending out shock results and our belief on Monday night must be that we can win the game.
“We’ve got a fantastic stadium and the support inside it will make it a really good atmosphere, that’s a guarantee.
“Everyone can look forward to a good night of football.”
