In today’s media watch, we take a look at one of our loan star’s impressive performances as well as City’s recent Premier League rating.
Firstly we start with loanee, Bersant Celina, who smashed a ‘goal of the season contender’ during Ipswich’s 1-0 victory over Leeds United in the Championship.
Celina is currently on a season-long loan with the Suffolk club and the Kosovo international is hoping that Pep Guardiola will see his recent impressive strike, as the forward believes it’s one of the best goals he has ever scored.
Speaking to reporters after the match, and quoted in the Manchester Evening News, Celina said “I hope he sees it.
“I don’t know how it works but I’m sure he will see it on a TV screen somewhere. I hope he is impressed.
“It was a good goal so I’m really happy for myself, the team and the fans.
“It was definitely one of the best goals I have scored as a professional.
“I’m really happy with Ipswich and playing games. I need to carry on for the next four months and help the team, keep playing and doing well.”
Next up we turn to the rating which Manchester City received from Steve McClaren after the team’s performance against Liverpool on Sunday.
Although the game ended 4-3 to the home side, the Blues were commended on their fighting spirit during the entertaining clash which meant we were awarded an ‘A’ grade.
Writing for Sky Sports, McClaren said: “The errors they made were forced mistakes, not unforced. They were forced by pressure.
“Even at 4-1, City never stopped playing. I remember thinking this could be six or seven, or it could be 4-4.
“That’s a great lesson for our coaches, to look at that game and know that it takes an unbelievable amount of courage to play that way.
“It’s so entertaining, and that’s how we want our football to be.
“Despite the defeat, I’m giving them an A for contributing to a brilliant game.”
Finally, staying on the topic of Sunday’s match – Gary Neville believes that other clubs will struggle to beat City throughout the rest of the season.
“Of course you’ve got to try and win the ball higher up the pitch against Manchester City,” Neville explained on Sky Sport’s Monday Night Football. “But I question whether the other teams have got the energy and the ability to finish like that to do what Liverpool did.
“But certainly what Bristol City have done and what Liverpool have done has to be a better way than what we’ve seen in the two previous months where teams have gone right back.
“City just put you in a headlock for 90 minutes, keep the ball at 75% possession and inevitably win because they are that good on the ball in the final third.”
