Former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker Michael Owen writes: “The controversy surrounding VAR and City’s disallowed “winner” against Spurs on Saturday took some of the gloss off what was a cracking game with the champions having 30 shots on the Spurs goal.

“City put five past West Ham at the London Stadium on the opening weekend of the season and they are likely to still be smarting after dropping two points to Spurs when they take the field at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday. It could be a long afternoon for the Cherries despite their own unbeaten start to the campaign.”

If they are to sit back as they did last season, then for instance Fernandinho as a centre-back to push forward on the ball makes sense but Nicolas Otamendi is invaluable if more defending is required.

“The threat Bournemouth carry means the manager probably has to show some restraint and that could well mean Fernandinho over Rodri despite the new signing’s fine start to life at the Etihad.

“Bernardo just edges out Riyad Mahrez and David Silva is better than anyone else at ghosting between the lines. The big call up front is Gabriel Jesus or Sergio Aguero and for me there is no question as to who is looking sharper.”

“Kyle Walker still looks like the number one choice at right-back although Guardiola is sure to give new boy Joao Cancelo a chance sooner rater than later.

“Aymeric Laporte is a certainty at centre-back and the Frenchman should be joined by Nicolas Otamendi with John Stones struggling after a muscle issue.”
