Across the Atlantic, a City hero has been full of praise for his former Club.
Shaun Wright-Phillips is currently out in San Diego for the 2019 Nexen Man City Cup – along with the Premier League trophy - and Glenn Crooks of Pro Soccer USA caught up with the former winger to discuss the Club’s recent success and his son D’Margio’s development at the City Football Academy.

Reflecting on last weekend’s historic FA Cup win over Watford, Wright-Phillips declared: “It was great to be there and witness history.
“To see the movement forward and the patience they’ve had in building has been rewarding.”
The former winger also reserved praise for Raheem Sterling and the impact the forward is creating both on and off the pitch.
“The guy that stands out for me is obviously Raheem Sterling,” he added, “because with everything he’s gone through, he’s still performing at the highest level.”
The son of Ian Wright and the brother of Bradley Wright-Phillips, it was only natural that Shaun would go on to have a son, who would also enjoy a career in the beautiful game.
D’Margio represents City’s youth sides but Shaun insists the youngster is not under any pressure to fill his dad’s boots.
“He’ll tell me what he thinks and I’ll either agree with him or disagree with him and tell him what I think,” he continued.
“At the end of the day, it’s easy from the outside to say you should do this, you should do that.
“When you walk across the white line, things happen a lot quicker than that. It’s not really that easy.
“The better they get at that comes with age and maturity.”
Now to transfer gossip and the rumours of alleged interest in Bruno Fernandes are swirling once more, after the Sporting Lisbon star stated his desire to play in England.
As the Daily Star’s Aaron Stokes reports, Fernandes told Diario de Noticias: “I said that I would leave Sporting once my ambitions were greater than those of the club, but they are not at the moment.
“The ambition to be national champion is still here and so I have no reason to leave.
“Obviously if an irrefutable proposal for me arrives, and it’s good for the club, let’s get together and decide together.
“I always said that I was an ambitious player and from a very early age I have a dream of playing in England, where you can live pure football without big controversy, without big cases.”
Meanwhile, Benfica assert Joao Felix – another supposed City target – will be staying put this summer unless his release clause is met, according to Goal.
Writes Chris Burton: “Benfica have warned those casting admiring glances in the direction of Joao Felix – with Manchester rivals United and City said to be among his suitors – that €100 million (£88m/$112m) will not be enough to do a deal.”
De Oliveira told TVI24: “If someone hits €100m (£88m) for Felix, the intention is not to sell.
“€100m is a lot of money, there has never been a player sold for that amount in Portugal, but the goal is to win on the pitch and we will do everything in that direction.
“Today, if they do not beat the €120m (£105m), the player stays.”
Finally, Sport Witness believe City are also monitoring Brazilian ‘wonderkid’ Reinier.
According to Lucas Sposito: “As reported by Globo Esporte today, the Premier League champions are in a list of competitors which includes the likes of AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.
“Reinier hasn’t even made his debut for Flamengo yet, but has been catching attention due to the potential he’s shown at the club’s academy and the national team’s youth squads.
“Now as his contract expires at the end of 2020, Flamengo are in a hurry to convince him to sign a new deal, both to guarantee his future at the club as to protect him from the European interest.
“Reinier is currently protected by a €70m release clause, but if he doesn’t renew he can move for free in January 2021. The Brazilian club want to avoid that.”
