It’s the morning after the night before and reaction to City’s defeat to Liverpool continues to dominate the sports pages.

Ilkay Gundogan has spoken, revealing what he felt was the game’s turning point and elsewhere, Raheem Sterling has been praised for his endeavours on what was a tough afternoon for the boys in blue.

The Mirror: Ilkay Gundogan opens up on dressing room reaction to Liverpool defeat

“It [the first goal] was [important], also maybe because of the action just before the goal was scored.

“I felt like they were a bit positive in the seconds after the hand situation, and Fabinho scored a great goal.

“It’s always tough when they score the first, especially at Anfield, and then go straight away for the second one, with the crowd and their emotions.

“It takes a tough mentality to fight against that and unfortunately they scored the second straight after. It’s a defeat and we have to take it.”

Manchester Evening News: Sterling’s desire

Writes Tyrone Marshall: “This was another day when everything that could go wrong for Raheem Sterling at Anfield did.

“He must be wondering if he’ll ever have a good day back here in City’s colours. His performance was at least a sign of his growing influence.

“He wasn’t at his best and was left furious at some of Michael Oliver’s decisions, but he never let his head drop and he continued to plug away, doing his best to find a way back into the game for City.

“On Sunday he never went missing and looked the most likely player to drag his side back into the game.”
