The Telegraph’s Chief Football Correspondent has written an extensive piece about the midfielder, claiming he could play a central role for City for a decade.

Jason Burt writes: “Pep Guardiola intends to use Phil Foden as David Silva’s replacement next season with a source close to the Manchester City manager claiming he can become the club’s “home-grown legend for the next 10 to 12 years”.
“Guardiola has already spoken publicly about his intention to give Foden further opportunities, although the frustration for the 19 year-old is if he were playing more regularly at present he would be in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.
“Southgate has been debating with his staff whether or not he can justify selecting Foden - who is the kind of creative play-maker England lack - in any case but it seems likely he will miss out unless he gets significantly more minutes with City from now until the end of the season.
“The midfielder was an unused substitute in City’s 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on Sunday, and has made just two Premier League starts all season, despite City’s relatively faltering form.
“Guardiola is, nevertheless, serious about promoting Foden as part of his planned changes to the squad this summer with Silva, 34, having already announced he is leaving at the end of his contract in what is his 10th campaign at the club.
“Grooming Foden to take over is partly why Guardiola has not wanted him to go out on loan, arguing he has gained more valuable experience by getting a number of minutes of first-team experience and also by training with the squad.”
