City beat Liverpool 5-4 on penalties to retain the Community Shield at Wembley and record a perfect start to the 2019/20 campaign.

Pep Guardiola‘s side scored all five of their spot-kicks to retain the Community Shield after the game finished 1-1 at the end of normal time.

Ilkay GundoganBernardo SilvaPhil Foden, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus were all on target from 12 yards, with Claudio Bravo denying Gini Wijnaldum to force the advantage.

The penalties came after Raheem Sterling‘s 12th-minute opener was cancelled out by Joel Matip’s 76th-minute header. 

City’s latest success takes the club’s tally of Community Shield victories to six, with Guardiola‘s side winning each of the last five domestic trophies on offer.
