Stoppage time strikes in both halves from Aymeric Laporte and substitute Gabriel Jesus were enough to earn both a hard-fought 2-0 win and a return to top spot away to Everton.
Laporte’s looping header from a David Silva free-kick hauled us in front before Jesus doubled the lead after Jordan Pickford had initially blocked his chipped 97th minute effort.
We could have added further gloss to the score-line, but Laporte planted a close-range header wide at the back-post on 15 minutes before Ilkay Gundogan rattled the woodwork from David Silva’s cutback ten minutes later.
Sergio Aguero’s improvised overhead kick on the hour was perhaps our best chance in an end to end second-half but Jesus’ stoppage-time intervention and Laporte’s towering header were enough to seal three points and a return to top spot.
