Manchester City Women return to action with the visit of Arsenal Ladies on Sunday.

After a lengthy break which saw their last competitive action played almost a month ago, Nick Cushing’s side are eager to take to the pitch as they bid to secure a league double over the Gunners.

In the reverse fixture back in May, Toni Duggan’s solitary goal earned the Manchester outfit a first ever league win in the top flight and manager Cushing is confident his team can continue their superb home record to extend the gap between themselves and the North London side, while keeping in touch with those at the top.

“Sunday’s game will be tough,” he declared. “Arsenal are a fantastic women’s football team and their history is unrivalled.

“As always though, we’ll back ourselves and we’ll be ready.

“We always set up to win but we never go into a game expecting to beat anyone in this league. As a new team, we need to make sure we try and see out games during difficult periods.

“We always want to prepare properly because we know that if we don’t, we’d only have ourselves to blame if we didn’t pick up results.

“On Sunday, we will have to be at the top of our game both offensively and defensively.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to impose ourselves and score some goals.”

Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday 24 August at the Manchester Regional Arena. There’ll be tonnes of pre-match activities on offer with City in the Community and we’ll also have live music in our mini-BT City square before kick-off.
