Manchester City Women manager Nick Cushing has challenged fans to generate the 'unique' atmosphere they are renowned for, in his side's upcoming Continental Cup semi-final.

With MCWFC just one win away from a first ever cup final in their debut season in the top flight, Cushing believes his side will benefit from a strong, vocal backing at Ewen Fields, as the men’s squad and youth teams often do.

The City boss also feels the advantage of receiving a home tie could prove crucial, as the Manchester outfit prepare to lock horns with the Blues for the third time this season.

“The players love playing at home because they receive great support,” he asserted. “This club builds itself on the fact we’re all one big family and against Liverpool and Arsenal, I thought the fans were exceptional.

“We got an excellent reception from the fans at City Live as well and it reinforced to the players how together this club is.

“The supporters have an equal focus on each team - that in itself makes us unique as a women’s team. We need them to show their support at the Chelsea game.”

With the Club having enjoyed some memorable nights at Hyde in recent years, the manager hopes another historical landmark will be reached - this time for the Women’s team - with the help of the City faithful.

“You can see when our first-team play in the big games, the fans play a huge part in helping the players to secure the win by creating a real atmosphere,” he stated.

“Another example is the Benfica game for the Elite Development Squad last year. That atmosphere for an under-21s game was incredible and I don’t think many other clubs could do that.

This club can and if the fans can replicate that for us in September, we’ll stand a great chance of reaching the final of the Continental Cup.

Admission for the clash at Ewen Fields, Hyde is priced at just £4 for adults, £3 for over-65s and 16-21 year-olds and £2 for under-16s. Tickets can be purchased online at tickets.mcfc.co.uk or at the Etihad Stadium Box Office.

Cityzens members can redeem Ticket Points upon purchase.

Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday 7 September. Bring your flags, scarves, inflatables and singing voices.

We look forward to seeing you cheer the Women on to the final.
