The game presents the very first occasion that the new-look City squad will play together and manager Nick Cushing is relishing the chance to observe his side play in a competitive match.
“With our first game coming this Sunday, we are very much looking forward to building upon the training sessions we have had to date. We want to continue the excellent attitude the players have shown in developing our team culture and our style of play,” he asserted.
“It is a great platform for all our players to get pitch time and will give us a chance to look at our team against good opposition. Whatever the result, it will be another fantastic day in our journey.”
After the game, the Blues won’t have much time to rest as they fly out to La Manga the following day. The complex will be familiar to some of the squad, who will have visited the resort whilst on international duty.
La Manga is a popular destination for some of the world’s top clubs who wish to experience the state-of-the-art training facility with the added bonus of warm-weather.
Gavin Makel, Head of Women’s Football, believes the trip will serve to bring the players closer together, whilst improving their fitness and technique.
“Everyone’s really looking forward to it,” he declared. “A few of the players have been before but many haven’t so it will be a great experience for them.
“Alongside the obvious physical benefits the camp provides, we think it’s very important as a new team to get away together and find out a bit more about each other.
“It will hopefully put us in good stead for the start of the season and give us a further platform to work from as preparations step up a notch.”
