City Women manager Nick Cushing is looking forward to the Blues' second friendly of the off-season, which takes place on Sunday.

The Blues will travel to Scotland to play Glasgow City - the most successful side in the Scottish Women’s Premier League - and Cushing is relishing the challenge.

“We are very much looking forward to our second game as MCWFC,” he stated. “In Glasgow, we’ll be able to face excellent opposition to examine where we are at present as a team.”

Reflecting on last week’s trip to La Manga, Cushing also revealed that the players have built strong and positive relationships, which can only benefit the squad as they bid to tackle the FA Women’s Super League.

“It’s been excellent to get the girls together and to let them spend plenty of time off the pitch as well as on it,” he smiled. “That was the main objective of the trip.

“While we were there, we worked on a lot of team-building activities to get the units – the back four, the midfield three and the strikers – playing together.

“Team spirit is high at the moment and we had some fun times while we were there.

“The trip allowed us to get together, reinforce the messages we’re trying to convey and now the fixtures are out, it all feels very real. We’re all really excited for the season to start.”

City have already tested their mettle this season with a friendly double-header against Celtic but once again, Cushing is not looking for stand-out performances - instead, fitness and teamwork is the priority.

“I was really happy with our first outing,” he asserted. “All the players were able to get some game time and everything was really positive.

“As always, irrelevant of the outcome of this game, we’ll keep working to become better.”
