Manchester City Women continue their Continental Cup adventure against Liverpool Ladies on Wednesday night.

The Blues, who picked up their first win in the competition last time out with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Everton Ladies, host the FA WSL champions at the Manchester Regional Arena in their third League Cup tie of the season.

Nick Cushing’s side currently lie third in Group Two - a point behind the Reds. Only the winner of each group and the best runner up of all three groups progress to the semi-finals so the Blues must aim to pick up maximum points from each of their remaining games.

City have already locked horns with Liverpool this season, having christened their first campaign in the top flight with an away trip to the Select Security Stadium back in April.

On that occasion, the Manchester outfit were unfortunate to come away from Widnes with nothing, after a solitary Natasha Dowie strike secured all three points for the hosts.

Ahead of Wednesday’s clash, Blues’ captain Steph Houghton is anticipating another tight affair between two footballing sides.

“I expect a tough game against a very good team that won the league last season,” she declared. “Obviously, we played them on the opening day and to be honest, we were disappointed to come away from that game without at least a point.

“That just shows our capabilities and our belief. We knew we had to work hard and create a lot of chances. We’ve just got to make sure we’re tight at the back this time and do what we can to stop their best players from performing well.

“We’ll go into the game on the back of a good few training sessions and hopefully, we’ll be ready.”

Kick-off is at 19:30pm on Wednesday 14 May. Tickets are priced at £6 for adults and £4 for under-16s. Concessionary discounts are also available, with tickets for over-65s, 16-21 year-olds and disabled supporters priced at £5.

All tickets can be purchased online or at the Etihad Stadium box office. All home games are played at the Manchester Regional Arena, Rowsley Street, M11 3FF.

If you can’t make it though, we’ll have live updates on Twitter as well as a full match report on mcfc.co.uk shortly after full-time.
