MCWFC and England striker Toni Duggan will miss the rest of the season with the ankle injury sustained against Liverpool Ladies.

The 24-year old was substituted in the second half of the Continental Cup clash at the end of August and missed the 1-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday.

Toni will now miss the remainder of the campaign, including the Continental Cup quarter final against Arsenal and the final three FA WSL games.

It’s a blow for City as they prepare to face Liverpool again, this time in the FA WSL, on Thursday night.

Grant Downie, MCFC Head of Performance, said: “Although this is a really disappointing set-back for Toni, she has previously demonstrated great strength of character and excellent application to rehabilitation plans provided by the medical team.”

Natasha Flint and Nikita Parris will be  in contention to deputise on Thursday night at the Academy Stadium as MCWFC take on Liverpool, hoping to close the gap at the top of the table to just two points.

We’ll have live updates on Twitter as well as a full match report and post-match reaction on the website shortly after full-time.
