The Blues’ 2-0 win over Reading put Nick Cushing’s side within two wins of the being confirmed as champions – but with tricky games to come against Chelsea, Arsenal and Birmingham – the three teams who occupy the places beneath City, Beattie says the really hard work is still to come.
“Every game is massive on the run-in and we’re pushing for three points in every game,” said Beattie who opened the scoring against Reading on Sunday. “There are three games to go now in the league and we’re going to keep pushing for that title.
“The best thing is, we’re still not happy and we still think we can get better. We scored two from set-pieces but we want to get better from open play. We’ve got all the quality we need, It’s just about making it happen in the final third - and it will happen.
“We’re happy with the win but we know we can do even better than that.”
Reading’s dogged defensive display was nothing new for City who have become accustomed to sides attempting to stifle the Blues’ attacking instincts,
Beattie acknowledged the leaders are there to be shot at, but the focus is strong and determination to see the job through ever stronger.
“It was a tight game - once again, the opposition banked up to make things hard for us so it was good to get the goal and then Steph went on to get the second,” she said. “It was nice to get on the score-sheet - it doesn’t happen very often! I was just happy to break the deadlock.
“It was all about the delivery to be honest. Toni [Duggan] was brilliant all day so it would have been on us if we didn’t get one from a set-piece. Thankfully, it went in
“Everyone needs to step up and take responsibility in the final weeks. It’s not about individuals - it’s about the team as a whole and how we can all step up. Silverware is motivation. That’s all the motivation we need.
“We all know everyone’s capable of doing what it takes to win the title. I know the feeling of winning the league and I want it to happen for this club - it’s a brilliant club.
“We want silverware and hopefully, having had that experience does help. As for the upcoming Continental Tyres Cup semi, we haven’t really thought about it much - the focus has been game by game. The Reading game is done now and we go on to the cup.
“Everyone wants to get to the final - that’s what we’re focusing on now - so hopefully, we’ll get through.”
