City could boast another Olympic gold medallist come Friday night.

Kosovare Asllani has the chance to join an elite list of Blue golds when Sweden take on Germany in the final of the women’s football event in Rio.

From Kaziu Deyna to Pep Guardiola, Carlos Tevez to Sergio Aguero, City have had many Olympic champions through the years - but Kosse would be the first woman.

The Swedes completed shock penalty shoot-out victories over the United States and Brazil to reach the last stage for the first time -  but the skilful forward insists her side will not be satisfied with that achievement alone.

“It’s crazy but amazing to be in an Olympic final,” she declared. “We’ve come up against some of the world’s best teams in the USA and Brazil. We’re here because we’ve worked hard and showed discipline.

“We’ve followed our tactics too, worked for each other and showed good mental strength in the penalty shoot-outs.

“It feels really good to have got this far - but we’re not happy yet. We want that gold medal.”

Previewing the clash against fellow Olympic final debutants Germany, she stated: “It’s going to be a hard game.

“To be honest, we wouldn’t want to be playing anyone else. We’ve played the USA and Brazil - let’s play Germany too!

“They’re like us - they’re structured and solid defensively, but we’ll be looking to take advantage of any weaknesses.” 

Asllani also revealed her side have received plenty of backing from Manchester, with the City staff, players and fans sending messages of goodwill.

“They’ve been showing their support and rooting for Sweden,” she added. “It’s very appreciated!”

The final will kick-off at 17:30pm local time on Friday 19 August.
