Man City Women manager Nick Cushing has urged his side to remain cool-headed in the title run-in.

The table-topping Blues head into Sunday’s crucial Super League clash with Arsenal in the knowledge two more victories will guarantee a first title.

To add to the excitement, City are also Continental Tyres Cup finalists and will begin their maiden Champions League campaign in a matter of weeks.

With such a high-pressure run of fixtures approaching, Cushing has warned the Blues not to get ahead of themselves, encouraging them to simply continue their excellent form which sees his side unbeaten in the league since April 2015.

City head into the trip to Boreham Wood having secured a semi-final triumph over the Gunners last time out, thanks to Jennifer Beattie’s second half strike, and Cushing wants a similar - if not better result - in North London.

“We’re in a good position and we’re excited for the next game against Arsenal,” he told press.

“I said to Casey Stoney [after the cup win] we have to do it all again in seven days’ time!

“We’ll prepare for that game slightly differently with it being an away game but we’ll prepare to either get the same result or win by a bigger margin. We always go into games to win.

“Our priority and our first goal for the season is to win the league. That’s our bread and butter.

“Sunday’s game is important and our immediate focus. We have to go into the game to win it and strengthen our position.

“We can’t hide away from what’s at stake. I can play games now and say this and that but it’s a very important game and we’ll plan to be the best we can be.”
