The Blues need just a point against reigning champions Chelsea to clinch the trophy on home soil, and the manager hopes his side’s hard work throughout an incredible campaign will be repaid with silverware.
Although a draw would be enough, Cushijng added City are approaching the clash as they would any other – with a willingness to win.
“It’s a special game because we can win the title but nothing is won yet,” he warned, “and Chelsea are an exceptional team.
“If we perform as I know we can and go on to lift our first league trophy, I would be so proud of the players and staff because the hard work they’ve put in this season has been unbelievable, particularly in some difficult circumstances.
“We just need to make sure we perform well. There’s no special gameplan; there’s no change in style or methodology because we always plan to win games, irrelevant of whether we win a trophy at the end of the 90 minutes. It’s just a normal game to me.
“Throughout the whole three years, it’s been a rollercoaster but winning the league would certainly be deserved recognition for this club.”
The Blues’ unbeaten league campaign has heralded 12 wins from 14 games with 33 goals scored and just three conceded.
With talk of City finishing the season as ‘Invincibles’, Cushing declared he would be delighted with such a feat – again, for the players and staff.
He continued: “This season has exceeded my expectations, but then I’m also not surprised. We have quality, hard-working players who are also good people and they’ve all put in tremendous effort.
“To win the league, you have to have a lot of different sides to your game and I feel we have now.
“We all want to continue to improve and become the best version of ourselves we can be, and there’s actually more to us than wanting to win trophies.”
It’s taken just three seasons in the top flight for City to become title contenders, and Cushing is proud to be part of a club whose ambition is to promote and develop the women’s game.
“We’re trying to create something here where we can also grow the fanbase of Man City Women,” he explained. “I feel the fans will come if we play good football and they enjoy seeing what they see. Then, they might bring someone else back and the attendances will grow.
“Playing attractive football and creating chances brings results and support and ultimately, that in itself brings silverware.”
