Man City Women’s Carli Lloyd says she is thriving under the leadership of manager Nick Cushing.

The two-time FIFA World Player of the Year joined the league champions in February, ahead of the new season, and has slotted in perfectly, featuring in every game so far.

The Blues have claimed a 100% record from four games and Lloyd declared she is enjoying playing ‘the City way’.

“I’ve been loving it,” she smiled. “I’ve learned a lot already in the short amount of time I’ve been here.

“There’s a structure and a plan in place. If we need a meeting, we’ll have a quick one and go over the opponent’s style of play but in general it’s always about us and that’s what I like the most.

“I love Nick Cushing’s coaching style. He’s straight to the point and he doesn’t over-coach or complicate things.

“I really like the way he coaches and motivates. He’s a great manager.”

Lloyd opened her goalscoring account on just her second appearance for the Club in the Champions League quarter-final first leg win at Fortuna Hjorring.

Delighted to have hit the ground running, the USA skipper hopes to build on her start and says the standard European competition is exactly what she expected.

“It’s been great and exciting,” she continued. “I’ve grown up watching the men play in Champions League home and away legs.

“It’s really special to be part of that. I’ve always wanted to be part of it. Having moved to City, I’ve been able to take part in it.

“The first games were cold and a battle but we got the job done and now we focus on the next games.

“It’s always good to get goals but for me, as long as I’m contributing in some way and working hard, I don’t care how we get the goals!

“As long as we’re winning, that’s the most important thing!”
