Megan Campbell hopes to be back in contention for Man City Women’s pre-season schedule.

The Republic of Ireland left-back missed much of the 2016 double-winning campaign through injury, but revealed she is nearing full fitness and has set her sights on returning for the Blues’ exhibition games.

“Fingers crossed, I’ll be fully fit for the Spring Series and Champions League,” she told CityTV.

“I’ll be available for the majority of pre-season friendlies. I’m looking forward to it.”

Nick Cushing’s side returned to training last week with three days of fitness training. Campbell admitted it was hard work, but enjoyed having the team back together.

“It’s brilliant being back with the girls,” she continued. “Everyone’s delighted to be back, especially me because I’m around the team again.

“To have everyone supporting you is a great feeling. We’re at a great club with great facilities but to have your teammates and staff behind you is always a better thing.

“Mentally, it’s very tough to be injured but I had Abbie McManus with me to get me through the tough parts, and vice versa.

“Luckily, we’re coming back and both raring to go.”

Asked how City can top last season’s achievements, Campbell replied: “For us, a big thing was not winning the FA Cup. That’s something we want to strive to do this year.

“On top of that, we have the Champions League quarter-final and of course, we want to progress to the semi-final and final.”

This year marks the introduction of the Spring Series, ahead of the Super League’s change in format to a winter season.

Campbell added the team are excited for a new challenge.

“It’s a good stepping stone in the right direction,” she stated. “The Spring Series is coming around the corner and teams have regenerated their squads, bringing in new players.

“It’s going to be a tough series but it’s one we want to win so we can earn back-to-back titles.

“It’s going to mean a long season - 18 months pretty much – but it’s a good thing, especially for the girls going off to the Euros in July.

“We’ve proved we can succeed as a team. We’re quite together - we’re like a family - and that works well.

“We know we can do anything if we put our minds to it.”
