Scotland striker Jane Ross has revealed her time at Man City Women has aided her development both on and off the pitch.

With 13 goals in all competitions in 2016, the Blues’ top scorer played a pivotal role in helping her side to a league and cup double.

Training in state-of-the-art facilities, alongside top international players and expert staff, the 27-year-old believes she has thrived on a professional and personal level.

“I’m learning a lot about myself as a person and as a player,” she declared.

“At my previous club, I was playing in various different positions and maybe wasn’t playing as a forward or around the box as much as I’d have liked.

“I have been playing upfront regularly and so I have been able to focus on developing to become the best player in that position. That has helped me a lot.

“For me, just being consistently playing in the same position has helped my game hugely.”

Ross also credits her teammates for their warm welcome, and for creating such a pleasant environment.

“It was everything I hoped for,” she added. “I’ve really loved every minute – we have a great group of players and staff to work with day in, day out. It’s very enjoyable.

“All of the girls were great [when I first arrived] – they made me feel very welcome and I felt like I fitted in easily, which made it easy to perform out on the pitch. I felt comfortable in training and was able to get on and do my thing.

“We really do have a very good group of players. Everyone gets on well with one another – you can sit beside anyone and have a conversation. It’s a nice environment to be in.”

Sharing such a strong team spirit certainly produced results, as Ross continued.

“We obviously had a very successful season,” she smiled. “I’m very happy to have been able to contribute with goals and to have come away with the double was very pleasing.

“To have achieved that with this Club and the girls – after the mental and physical work we’d put in – felt really good.

“It’s been great to play alongside these players. Attacking-wise, both from midfield and out wide, there’s a lot of energy, talent and creativity. It’s enjoyable to play alongside them.”

Asked of City’s hopes for 2017 and the suggestion the upcoming season will present more difficult challenges, Ross replied: “It’s obviously our title now – we want to go out and defend it.

“It’s been a great achievement and success to have won trophies but you want to be a Club who is able to do that every year, winning titles over multiple years.

“The club has never won the FA Cup either so that is also a target, and of course we want to go as far as we can in the Champions League.”
