Man City Women are delighted to announce Danish defender Mie Jans will join the Club on 1 July.

The 23-year-old will join the Club from Brondby IF, having played against the Blues in the 2016/17 Champions League campaign.

The Denmark international – admired for her strength, tactical awareness and positional nous – caught the eye of Nick Cushing over two legs in the last 16 stage.

Jans was equally impressed with City – in particular the Club’s professionalism – and felt an immediate desire to join the 2016 double-winning champions.

Although she admits moving to England proved a huge decision, she is relishing the prospect of a new challenge.

“I’m very glad to be here and very excited,” she told CityTV. “I’m honoured to be playing for a Club like Manchester City.

“I thought a lot of things [when I arrived]. I was overwhelmed by the whole area. It’s very, very good.

“[When I played here for Brondby], I liked the pitch. It’s good and I liked the whole atmosphere.

“I came to train and we played at night at the Academy Stadium. I thought it was amazing and I thought at the time: I could play here.

“I liked the players and their attitude – they were a team all the way through – and they beat us!

“It’s a big thing [to move abroad]. It’s kind of scary but I’m not that concerned. There are a lot of people to help me and make it comfortable. My boyfriend is coming over too so we are making an adventure out of it.

“I am going to play in a whole new league and country, chasing my dreams. I want to win and I know I can do it at Manchester City.

“It’s a dream come true to work under these conditions. I’m very happy.”

Jans began her career at Dragør Boldklub before moving to Brondby’s academy. She made her senior debut for Ballerup-Skovlunde Fodbold (BSF) in 2012.

Two years later, she returned to Brondby, where she enjoyed domestic success and gained plenty of Champions League experience, including a semi-final appearance in 2015.

She represents her country at senior level, having made her debut in November 2013.

Striving to become the best she can be, the defender is excited to be working under a manager who shares her winning mentality and eagerness to improve.

“[I was attracted to] the winning culture and how the Club think,” she continued.

“After talking to the manager Nick [Cushing], I was overwhelmed by the way he thinks about football.

“I’ve been searching for that for a couple of years. It was very nice to talk to someone who thinks like I do.

“Nick said he thinks I am a good player and he likes the way I talk about football – my passion.

“When I was a small girl, I dreamt about becoming a professional player for the men’s national team because I didn’t know when I was little that I couldn’t!

“Nick liked that story. Inside, I am still that small child, chasing my dream.

“He liked the way I thought about it and how I play with my heart. I want to win.”

Asked what she feels the Blues can help her to improve on, Jans replied: “I think City can help me with a lot of things.

“Playing in Denmark, it is not easy to both be a professional player and study alongside.

“City can help me to focus more on the football and give me time to become the best I can be. I will do my studies alongside but I don’t have to do it full-time. I can do full-time football and then improve on everything.

“I like the tempo and the physical part of the English game. We don’t have that a lot in Denmark – only the hardest games.

“After the 2016/17 Champions League, there has been a lot of talk about the English game and the footballers here. It’s getting more known about the English teams. It will get even bigger.”

In terms of her immediate and long-term hopes, Jans explained she wishes to slot in to her new side quickly, before pushing for a starting spot and ultimately, claiming silverware.

She declared: “In the beginning, I hope to settle down easily and get to know the team, the coaches and the culture – how they want to play.

“I’d like to play a lot of games in the starting XI. I want to be the best: that’s my goal. I want to win trophies.

“I’m from Brondby, I was raised in Brondby and it’s a winning culture: we only go for gold.

“I want to play in the Champions League too. I was in the semi-final a couple of years ago and when the final was being played, I was so disappointed we didn’t get there.

“I really want to win the Champions League. I think City can do it.

“Hopefully, I can bring something to the team from Danish culture. I am excited to get started.”
