City head in to Thursday’s quarter-final second leg against Fortuna Hjorring with a 1-0 lead after Carli Lloyd’s powerful header during the first half of last week’s tie in Denmark.
Nick Cushing’s team will now welcome the Danish side to the Academy Stadium with just 90 minutes between them and a place in the final four and Scott knows how important that away goal may prove to be.
She said: “It’s a massive game for us. In the first leg, Fortuna gave us a very different game but it was crucial we got that away goal. It means we can go into this home tie, focusing on ourselves a little bit more.
“If we’d have drawn away, we’d have taken that because we’re very confident playing at home and we tend to do very well.
“It’s going to be a great game and with the chance to reach the Champions League semi-finals, it will be a fantastic occasion.”
The England midfielder believes City’s squad of international stars and Super League winners will have to use all of their knowhow to get past Hjorring.
“We will have to manage our game and not get too impatient. We said that in the first leg: to remember it’s a game over two legs. It was like playing half a game,” said Scott.
“We need to use all of our experience – we have a lot of experienced players – and we need to manage the game and hopefully, get the right result to see us through to the semi-final.”
One of the biggest names currently involved in City’s squad is World Cup winner Lloyd. The American’s first goal for the club was the decisive moment in last week’s first leg and Scott is delighted with the impact she has had.
Scott said: “She’s brought a lot of professionalism. We see how she acts day in, day out and the work she puts in. Seeing how she is on the pitch as well as off it, we’re all learning from her and seeing why she is the best player in the world.
“It’s been great to have her around and it’s lifted the group both on and off the pitch.
“She has so much quality. She’s come in and scored that goal in the Champions League and she has that experienced head that was always going to keep calm. When it mattered, she put the ball in the back of the net which shows her calmness in front of goal as well.”
Many within the club are excited by the opportunity to learn all they can while Lloyd is in Manchester.
“It’s really driven our youngsters as well. You can see them asking her a lot of questions. She’s been there and done it and the medals she has speak for themselves as well as her personal accolades. The younger players are learning from her as well as the older ones, including myself” said Scott.
“I want to be one of the best midfielders in the world so it’s great to have Carli here. She’s been there and done it so I’m learning from her every day.”
