Nikita Parris says Man City Women are determined to retain their league crown.

The Blues notched their first win of the Spring Series with a five-goal thriller at Reading on Sunday to kickstart their title defence.

Parris played a key role, netting a brace, and hopes her side can build on that performance ahead of tonight’s trip to Bristol and Saturday’s FA Cup final.

She stated: “Everyone’s looking forward to the cup final but first, we have the game against Bristol which we want to win.

“We want to win the Spring Series. Confidence is high. 100%.

“We’ll look ahead to Bristol and then we’ll think about Birmingham and the FA Cup final.”

Reflecting on her own performance at Adams Park, Parris expressed her pride.

“I always want to score goals – whether it’s for club or country – and get the win,” she declared.

“I thought we were dominant in the first half – we just didn’t put our chances away again.

“In the second half, it was a bit up and down. Between the 65 to 75 minute mark, they had us on the rack and they got the penalty.”

Parris also hailed the impact of Irish defender Megan Campbell, who was introduced from the bench and claimed two assists within minutes.

“We knew we had to stick together as a team and come through it,” she added.

“Megan came on, made a great contribution with her throws and won us the game.”
