The 28-year-old will make the move from Damallsvenskan outfit KIF Örebro DFF until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
The attacking midfielder has always plied her trade in her homeland but makes the switch to the domestic treble holders, having always wished to play in England.
Eager to kick off a new chapter in her career, Spetsmark added she is even excited to play in the rain!
“I’m so excited to be here,” she told ManCity.com. “It feels great.
“It’s kind of a dream actually. I’ve only heard great things about this Club – the setting, great players. It’s a big club.
“I know some [things about the Club]. I’ve spoken to Kosse (former City player Kosovare Asllani) and she’s only had good things to say about the Club.
“I’ve always wanted to play in England, since I was a little kid. I’ve been waiting for the chance to play here so I’m really excited about that.
“Besides the soccer – or football as I’ve been told it’s called! – I’ve been told it’s raining a lot here and I love to play in rain!
“I haven’t left Sweden before but I feel ready. I have played in the Champions League and that was amazing.
“I wanted to go somewhere else and play and improve my game.”
Spetsmark describes herself as ‘a fast, explosive offensive player’. Asked what qualities in particular she would like to develop, she replied: “I would say my target play and everything technique-wise so I am able to do what I want to do at high speed.
“I am an offensive player. I want to keep the ball, keep possession and go forward.
“Nick [Cushing] told me he wants the team to keep more possession in the offensive half. Hopefully, I’ll be able to contribute to that.
“The settings here and the chance to be in this environment every day is amazing.”
The midfielder’s footballing adventure began at the age of ten. Seventeen years later, she would earn her first senior international cap and – while she may be deemed a late bloomer – Spetmark asserts her best is yet to come.
“I earned my first cap for Sweden when I was 27,” she explained. “In some opinions, that is very late but I feel I have my prime time to come.
“I’m excited to see what kind of player I can be here.”
Manager Cushing is equally enthusiastic to be working with his new recruit.
“Julia is somebody we feel will definitely improve us,” he reflected. “We’ve said before about being more offensive and trying to score more goals.
“We feel we’ve achieved that at the start of this year, although unfortunately we’ve lost Pauline Bremer for a long period of time.
“Bringing Julia in reinforces that offensive threat and firepower. She is somebody that has huge attacking attributes – she can play off the sides or down the middle, she’s a very direct runner with the ball and she’s created a lot of goals in Sweden.
“We’ve got a young squad. We’ve got young players with great potential. She is experienced in age but fits with the profile of signing we’ve tended to go for – she’s not an established international player, although she is in the Swedish national squad.
“She has a real desire to nail down that international place. She’s played in Sweden for Örebro – a good team in Sweden but not one of the real title chargers.
“She has a real desire and intent to improve and wants to go and prove she can play for one of the top four teams in Europe. We like to give players that opportunity to work hard and become the players they can be. We’re really excited for what she can achieve here.”
