Nikita Parris believes City have what it takes to lift the Champions League trophy in 2017/18.

The Blues sailed into the Round of 16 with a 6-0 aggregate victory over Austrian outfit SKN St Polten at the Academy Stadium, thanks to goals from Parris, Jill Scott and Mel Lawley.

Nick Cushing’s side, who reached the semi-finals in their competition debut last year, will learn their last 16 opponents on Monday (1:30pm CET) but Parris insists – in their current form – City fear no-one.

“We don’t really mind who we get in the next round,” she told ManCity.com. “As long as we are performing and we play our game, we’ll beat anyone on the day.

“Our main aim was to go into the hat for the next round.

“We put in a positive performance. In spells, we were a little sloppy and we’ll look at that but I was particularly pleased with our ability to win the ball back.

“In the away leg, we were a little too nice to them at their ground.

“At home, we put the pressure on when we lost the ball. We regained it very quickly and going forward, we need to do that more often.

“We’re happy with the win.”

City led 3-0 from the first leg, courtesy of Parris, Steph Houghton and Demi Stokes strikes.

Despite their commanding advantage, the winger insists it is not in her side’s nature to coast.

“We couldn’t take our foot off the gas,” she stated. “We knew how well St Polten started in the last game.

“We couldn’t give them a chance to get back in the game.

“We have to make sure we scored first. That settled into the game.”

Parris’ strike in the second leg triumph was her third in as many games.

Naturally, the winger is eager to continue her purple patch and help her side to more silverware.

“My main aim this season is to score goals,” she added. “I get a lot of chances so I want to start to put them away.

“We have to go one step further in the Champions League than last year.

“This team is good enough to play in Champions League finals and win it. That’s the next trophy we need to win.”
