We caught up with Man City Women forward Claire Emslie to get her thoughts on the opening day win at Yeovil and the clash with Arsenal at the Academy Stadium on Saturday.

What are your thoughts ahead of the Arsenal game?

It will be a really tough game but it’s one we’re looking forward to. For me, every game is really important. I’ll be going into it ready to try my hardest as I do into every game. Arsenal are a big team and we know it’s going to be a tough game.

It was a strong start against Yeovil...

I was delighted to get my first competitive start and play a part in the win - getting three points was the main thing and I’m glad we got that. We’ve been working in training on getting the ball out wide. That’s something I really enjoy. I got a lot of space and I enjoyed getting down the line and getting some crosses in.

How’s life been so far at City?

I’m looking to improve each and every week and learning from other players. Being part of this team is something I’m really enjoying. I want to learn week in, week out and win the league at the end of the day.

It’s been the hardest pre-season I’ve ever had. It has really tested me physically but I’ve been glad to get through it and I’m glad to have finally got started with league games. I’m really enjoying it.

What’s it like playing with world class players here at City?

It’s brilliant. For me to receive perfect through balls from the girls who pick me out makes life easier for me. I’m enjoying playing with them for sure.

And how about Nick Cushing?

I’ve taken everything he says on board. He’s teaching me things I’ve never learned before. It’s good and I’m enjoying playing under him. He pushes me, which is great.

Talk us through the assist for Jane Ross?

I tried to get to the by-line and managed to move my feet quick enough to get there! It was a great finish from Jane – a cheeky little backheel! I was delighted to get a goal from that.

You scored your first Scotland goal recently, that must have been a proud moment.

I couldn’t believe I was there – let alone starting! When I scored the goal, I was overwhelmed with emotion. I was delighted with that one. Hopefully, there’ll be more to come.
