Tessa Wullaert was delighted to open her goalscoring account for City, hailing her move to Manchester as ‘her best decision’.

Belgium’s all-time top goalscorer bagged two in the Blues’ 4-0 triumph over Leicester in the Continental Cup and clinched the Player of the Match award with an influential display.

The forward broke the deadlock at the Academy Stadium, finally breaching the Foxes’ defence on 54 minutes after City had dominated the first half. She smashed first-time into the back of the net to open the floodgates for Nick Cushing’s side – and naturally, the 25-year-old was thrilled.

“I’m really happy we won – that’s the most important thing – and it’s nice to score a goal and contribute something to the team,” Wullaert told ManCity.com.

“Leicester were a tough team to play against – they were really deep. In the first half, we hadn’t managed to score the things we created but in the second half, we did and 4-0 is a good result.

“I’m really happy to have scored my first goal for City. I had missed a few chances and got a bit frustrated but eventually, one hit the back of the net!

“It was good to score early in my City career. The longer you keep waiting to score, the heavier and more difficult it gets, especially against a team like Leicester.

“There will be a lot of teams in the competition who play like them so it’s all about creating chances.

“We could have scored a few more but it was a good second game. We did well. Let’s continue that.”

Reflecting on her summer transfer and her first weeks at the Club, Wullaert added she is loving ‘City life’ and is settling well into her new hometown and the Blues’ style of play.

“I’m really happy to be here,” she declared. “It was the best choice I made – it was a good switch from Germany to here.

“I like the playing style a lot. I had seen City play before and thought at the time it was my kind of play – on the ground with a lot of passes.

“We should continue how we played in the second half and keep the good result and confidence going into the international break and then into the game against Chelsea.”
