Manchester City star Nikita Parris is focused on securing second place in the FA Women’s Super League in order to gain a spot in next year’s Uefa Women’s Champions League.

The winger bagged a hat-trick, alongside a superbClaire Emsliestunner and anIzzy Christiansenpenalty, as City inched closer to next season’s European competition with a 5-0 victory over Yeovil Town.

With Arsenal Women still chasing the second spot in the table just a point behind City, the 24-year-old is keen to solidify their place in the standings against Everton on Sunday.

“It’s massive to be one step closer to a spot in next year’s UWCL as it’s been a disappointing season for us as we haven’t won any trophies,” Parris explained to ManCity.com “But to secure a place in the competition next year is what this club needs.

“We always talk about how important getting the three points is in games like this and I know we are determined to keep on winning.

“We’ve got a lot of developing players in our team and we are in a good place so we need to keep on with it.

“It’s always good to win and get back to winning ways but it’s about the performance and the team and making sure we are gelling well together.

“I’m massively pleased with our performance and the girls put a good shift in as it could’ve been complacent for us as Yeovil were sitting, but we were still determined to get the goals.”

Nikita doubled the Blues’ lead with a goal two minutes into the second half and netted two more strikes in close succession in the 74th and 76th minutes. The striker has scored 18 goals in total this season and is delighted with her consistency.

“I’m pleased with my hat-trick as I think it’s a long time coming.” Parris added. “I’m really proud and happy to be scoring more consistently in games and attacking this year, but it all means nothing if you only do it in one season so I will continue to work on that for next year.

“I don’t pick the ball up from the goalkeeper and just put it in the back of the net, the girls help me and I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”

The Blues complete their 2017/18 campaign on Sunday 20 May with the visit of Everton to the Academy Stadium in a 12:30pm kick-off.
