Stanway’s strike partner Nikita Parris is just one goal away from equalling the all-time record of goals scored in the WSL, but couldn’t find the net due to some good work from Reading goalkeeper Grace Moloney.

Cushing made no substitutes in the game as despite the result, he was pleased with his starting eleven’s performance.
“I thought the team was playing well” Cushing explained.
“I think we have players at the minute who are in form, Georgia and Nikita have goals in them and I thought we were getting the ball forward and creating moments.
“I didn’t think we needed to improve the performance, we just didn’t make that decision in the final third that would have got us a second goal.”
Whilst happy with individual performances of his players, and Stanway’s brilliant goal, the Blues’ manager stated the whole team were disappointed to have dropped points, as City missed the chance to move top of the WSL.
City move level on points with Arsenal, though the Gunners still lead the title race on goal difference.
“She’s (Stanway) playing well, she scored, and she played well against Reading, I think she’ll be disappointed that we didn’t get three points though, she’s a real team player.
“I think Arsenal are obviously the favourites, they’ve got the advantage, but we had an advantage last year and we didn’t win it, so, we’ll just keep fighting we take every game as it comes.
“The one good thing about the WSL this year is its very competitive, and any team can take points off any team.”
