Defender Mie Jans asserts City are ready to shine in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The Dane, who opened her goal-scoring account in sky blue on the pre-season tour of the United States, helped Nick Cushing’s side to a second semi-final in two attempts, after joining the Club in July 2017.

For the second time, the Blues were narrowly defeated by the eventual competition winners in French outfit Lyon, falling to a 1-0 aggregate loss.

A new dawn breaks on Thursday, as City kick off the 2018/19 European campaign with a Round of 32 trip to Atletico Madrid.

The clash – arguably the tie of the round – sees last season’s semi-finalists pitted against the Spanish Champions, having played just three games of the domestic campaign.

Although Jans anticipates an ‘intense’ encounter, the Denmark international asserts City are ready for the challenge.

“We feel really good,” she told ManCity.com. “We’re all excited about starting the Champions League now.

“It’s the time of the year where everybody gets really excited and it’s always nice to start a new Champions League season.

“It’s always interesting – no matter who you play, both teams always want to win and hopefully, we’ll get a good victory.

“Anything can happen but we feel comfortable. The team has been competing in the Champions League for a couple of years now and the players have been to the semi-finals so we have some experience.”

Asked what she expects of the Primera Division Champions, Jans added: “I predict they will go all in and want to win, like us.

“In the Champions League, everyone wants to compete and I expect an intense game.”

City head into the encounter on the back of an unbeaten start in the Continental Cup and Super League – most recently, having earned a hard-fought point at title holders Chelsea at Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

Overall, Jans has been pleased and hopes her side can ride the wave of their confidence.

“We’ve started now and we have a good feeling,” she continued. “Chelsea was a good game for us – it was a hard game to start with, especially away.

“We had a good pre-season as well and the new players have done well. We feel ready.

“Hopefully, we can do well. Personally, I want to play as much as I can and I want to the team to win as much as possible.

“We’ll take each game as it comes and we want to go all the way. Of course, we are going into every competition to win it and we’re really looking forward to it.”
