Cushing’s side begin their league race away to reigning Champions Chelsea on Sunday 9 September, a tough fixture which resulted in a win, a draw and a loss last season.
When asked about the upcoming clash and the pressure of winning the league, Cushing explained that he demands a lot from not just his squad, but himself.
“We put ourselves under pressure,” the manager said. “We have a desire to win.
“Last season we were maybe not too far off - we lost league with two games to go.
“I put myself under pressure and I put a demand on the team and myself. We have an opportunity here and we want to win. It’s hard to be competitive in all four competitions.
“The pressure comes from me.”
Cushing believes that opening the FAWSL with a tough test is as much as a positive as it is a negative.
“We demand highest level here anyway. It’s our first game and we’re not in rhythm or if we lose we have all season to gain points back - it’s as positive as it is negative.
It’s important to win every game. No one has ever won the Women’s Super League losing more than two games. If you lose the first, it doesn’t give you much room moving forward.
“It’s important we win every game.”
“I can’t control fixtures,” Nick added. “We have to play every team when schedule says. It’s not a positive or negative for me, we just have to prepare.”
On team news, Nick Cushing explained that he was pleased with the condition of his players following the international break.
“The players in good condition,” Cushing told the media. “They’ve had two days off. We have a competitive squad, and I will pick freshest team.
“We’ll be ready on Sunday.”
