The Scotland international played a key role in helping Nick Cushing’s side to FA Cup and Continental Cup success on an impressive debut campaign.

The midfielder chipped in with seven goals in 30 appearances and produced a string of influential displays, cementing her status as one of the league’s most technically gifted and talented stars.
As the squad ready themselves for the upcoming season opener – a tasty first professional Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 7 September – Weir believes her side are in fine fettle and hungry for the taste of further glory.
“We want to kick on from last year now,” she stated.
“We had some good form and we went so many games unbeaten.
“We want to go on from there and win some trophies.”
Weir’s efforts in the 2018/19 campaign earned a place in history, as the Scot was selected for her country’s first World Cup campaign for the summer tournament.
The midfielder’s fine form travelled with her to France and the 24-year-old admits it was an experience she will never forget – and one she hopes to relive.
“It’s a really exciting time,” she smiled. “The World Cup this summer was so exciting and a huge highlight for me.
“It feels like a while ago now but I’m glad to be back with City, getting ready for the start of the new season.
“I feel good. Last season was my first one at City and we won two trophies.
“Looking back, I’m very happy with that and I was really pleased to have contributed to the team in whatever way.
“I’m looking to do the same this year.”
Weir also believes City’s pre-season preparations could not have been better.
Cushing’s side travelled to North Carolina to compete in the Women’s International Champions Cup and the midfielder says the combination of a change of scenery and intensive training has worked wonders both on and off the pitch.
“It’s been really good,” she reflected. “It took some time to adjust to the time difference and heat but we trained really well.
“It was a lovely place and lovely hotel. It’s good to have a change of scenery – it’s good for the team, especially when there are new players, so we can get to know each other.
“It’s quite a different squad and it’s a nice squad to be part of.
“Everyone is getting on really well – they’re nice, professional, good players – and they’ve fitted in really well.
“As a player, it’s a great environment to be in and North Carolina was a great place with great training pitches and the Women’s International Champions Cup had top teams to play against – some of the best teams in the world.
“It was tough but that’s what you want from pre-season so it helps you to prepare. We have a huge first game against Manchester United and we have to be ready. The trip will help us.”
