It was a case of sweet 16 for Italy as Le Azzurre booked their place in the Women's World Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory over China in Montpellier.

Striker Valentina Giacinti gave Italy an early lead when she turned in the loose ball from close range after Peng Shimeng parried Elisa Bartoli’s effort.

And though China enjoyed a resurgence before the interval, Italy sealed victory through Aurora Galli after half-time.
