The Scottish international headed in the winner three minutes into stoppage time to ensure City secured a 2-1 victory from our vital FA Women’s Super League home clash with Liverpool to stay just a point behind leaders Arsenal.
Claire Emslie had given City the lead midway through the first half before a Liverpool penalty early in the second left Nick Cushing’s fighting desperately for the winner.

City had several opportunities in the second half to seal the victory through the likes of Nikita Parris and Caroline Weir, but found the Liverpool goalkeeper Anke Preuss in inspired form.
But, in a dramatic finale, Beattie grabbed a sensational winner three minutes into stoppage time, forcing home Carolone Weir’s superb free-kick.
However, despite being the one to put the ball in the back of the net, Beattie gave all the credit to her assist maker, Weir.
“Caroline’s Weir’s deliveries are ridiculous so it all came from that really. It landed on my head and then went in the back of the net, her quality was unbelievable,” said Beattie.
The win ensured Nick Cushing’s side maintained the pressure on league leaders Arsenal who earlier in the day had secured a 1-0 away win over Birmingham City.
Beattie also revealed that the nature of the result today had given the Blues an even greater desire in their battle to try and land the Women’s Super League title.
“We’ve won one trophy (the Continental Cup), we’ve got an FA Women’s Cup semi-final and we’re still trying to put pressure on Arsenal so there’s still a lot to play for and wins like that are massive,” the central defender added.
“I’ve been in teams before with City where we may not play the best football but we still come through and grab wins and that’s what good teams are all about.
“It shows that regardless of performance we can still dig deep. It’s three points, it keeps the pressure on Arsenal... it was massive for us.”
