In celebration of International Women’s Day 2019, Manchester City Football Club is unveiling a behind-the-scenes photo exhibition to honour their inspirational women’s team, who are fresh off the back

The exhibition, which will be on display in St. Ann’s Square in Manchester city centre from Friday 8 March to Saturday 9 March, showcases the hard work, passion, dedication and personality of the club’s elite female athletes.

Every year Manchester City’s club photographers document the journey and experiences of the players across the club.

This exhibition is a compilation of several seasons of work capturing the women’s team in training, on a matchday and in profile off the pitch.

Relaunched in 2014, Manchester City’s women’s team was the first FA WSL team to make all its players full time professionals and has enjoyed great success over the last five years winning five trophies and securing a place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the last three seasons.

Manchester City reinforced its commitment to growing the women’s game in January 2018 with the launch of Same City, Same Passion, a campaign demonstrating that the same skills, excitement and passion exist wherever a ball is kicked, regardless of if it is men’s or women’s football.

As part of the initiative, the club’s social media channels were merged to increase the visibility and reach of the women’s team.

Commenting on the exhibition, Nuria Tarre, Chief Marketing Officer for Manchester City, said: “At Manchester City, we are incredibly proud of our women’s team.

“The work they put in on and off the pitch is inspiring and our photographers have done an incredible job capturing the players’ commitment, passion and work ethic week in and week out.

“This International Women’s Day we wanted to celebrate our amazing female athletes and provide the public with another opportunity to learn more about women’s football and the players helping to grow the game.

“We hope this exhibition encourages more people to engage with women’s football and maybe even inspire the next generation of players.”

An official unveiling, attended by City stars Claire Emslie and Caroline Weir, will take place in St. Ann’s Square at 12:30pm on Friday 8 March.

All the pictures on display have been taken by club photographer Tom Flathers and each set will be accompanied by a QR code that links to a video about that player.
