Janine Beckie says City’s upturn in fortunes is credit to the hard work Nick Cushing’s side are putting in on the training pitch.

The Cup double winners clinched a fourth successive win – and second consecutive 5-0 league victory – with a superb display on Sunday against Bristol.

The run marks the perfect response to October’s setback of Champions League elimination and three straight defeats – and Beckie believes her side’s efforts during the week are earning just rewards.

“I think it’s testament to the work we’re putting in on the training pitch,” she stated.

“We’re on a very good run. Last year and in previous years, we’d gone to Bristol and had a hard time getting a win.

“Games like that – when teams sit behind the ball and are organised – mean we have to be patient in breaking them down.

“We could have had three goals in the first half. I thought our final third play could have been a bit better – but it’s about being patient, waiting for them to come out, and I thought we did that in the second half.

Pauline Bremer and Jess Park came on and made a huge different to help us put those goals away.”

The triumph lifted City top of the Super League but only temporarily, with both Chelsea and Arsenal victorious later in the day.

Only once have Cushing’s side clinched the league title and although Beckie believes the race will go down to the wire once more, the Canada star insists her side will do all they can to secure a second success.

“We want to be top of the race,” she added. “It will come down to the end of the season.

“All we can control is getting three points every weekend in the league.

“The league is as competitive as ever – any team can get a result on the day.

“If we continue to keep clean sheets and keep putting the ball in the back of the net, we’re a really difficult team to beat.

“We’ll look to take that into next weekend against Liverpool.”

City are back in action with the visit of Liverpool in the FA Women’s Super League on Sunday 1 December (2pm). Tickets are available online or at the Etihad Stadium Ticket Office.
