A gifted midfielder with an eye for goal who has won every honour available in the domestic game by the age of 20.
There is plenty more for her to achieve, of course, but Stanway may inadvertently have discovered a potential career path for when she eventually hangs up her boots.
Having missed City’s last six games due to a hamstring injury, the England international took up a position in the commentary box for the Champions League last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid and showed she is equally as adept at calling the action as she is dictating it from the heart of midfield.
“I really enjoyed it,” said Stanway after her co-commentator role at the Academy Stadium.
“I was a bit nervous because I wanted to say the right thing but considering it’s the first time I’ve done it, I enjoyed the experience and I’d do it again.
“When you’re injured, you don’t watch games that intently, but I couldn’t take my eyes off this game.
“You’ve got to pay attention, but I thought if I only chipped in every so often it would sound daft, so I tried to offer something new each time I spoke.”
Alistair Mann, a sports broadcaster with decades of experience working for the likes of Match of the Day and ITV Sport, was alongside Stanway in the commentary box and felt she delivered a remarkable performance.
“Georgia was incredibly enthusiastic and it was a joy working with her,” he explained.
“She offered insight, which was outstanding and her assessment tactically was very good as well.
“There’s no doubt she could do this after she retires.
“I’m often asked if I can recommend people for broadcasting opportunities and she is someone I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. She’s a natural.”
Stanway’s fledgling commentary career will now have to take a back seat, with the Barrow native having recovered from injury in time for this weekend’s game against Manchester United.
Leigh Sports Village is the venue for the second derby of the season and Stanway is itching to make her return.
“Because it’s an occasion and I’ve missed a few games I’ve been joking with Nick that he’s got to start me,” she said with a smile.
“I think I’ve been ready for a week, maybe longer, but you’ve got to be careful with hamstring injuries, it’s easy for them to recur.
“I’ve been back in training this week and I feel ready.”
Stanway played the full 90 minutes in our 1-0 victory over United at the Etihad Stadium in September.
It was a famous win – the first over our cross-city rivals in the FA WSL and played in front of a record crowd – though it was not a complete performance.
Cushing’s side struggled early on against the league newcomers, but Stanway is eyeing an improvement now we know what to expect from Casey Stoney’s players.
“The occasion got to us last time,” added City’s No.10.
“With it being the first game and that many people in the Eithad, there was a massive build up.
“We were very enthusiastic in the first half, running around everywhere but not getting the ball down and sticking to what we’re good at.
“It was the first time we’d played them. We knew they had signed players, that they’d made changes and that they had rotated their squad quite a lot so it was hard to know what to expect.
“Now we know what they’re about so we go into this weekend knowing what they’re good at and what we can exploit.”
