The former Republic of Ireland international will take charge of City’s women’s team on an interim basis, following Nick Cushing’s departure to New York City FC.

Mahon, 41, was due to take the reins for the first time on Sunday – only for the FA Women’s Super League clash with West Ham to be postponed due to the adverse weather.
Instead, he makes his delayed debut in Wednesday night’s league visit of Bristol City, but asserts he will not be making any radical changes, as he looks to reward Cushing’s work with more silverware success.
“It’s been business as usual,” he declared. “Not an awful lot has changed.
“Personally, I haven’t put myself above anyone else and we’ll just work as a group – the way we always have done – to ensure the players are as ready as they can be.
“I spent five years working with Nick and I learned a lot from him – most importantly, consistency and simplicity.
“Everyone has applied themselves brilliantly through this period. The players have been very professional and have reacted really well.
“Yes, it’s going to be a change – some players have only ever been coached at senior level by Nick – but these things happen in football and you just have to keep focused and move onto the next stage.
“I’m looking forward to my first teamtalk – hopefully, the girls will understand me with my accent! – but in all seriousness, everything will be simple; exactly the way we’ve always done things.”
City welcome Bristol City to the Academy Stadium with a fine record against the Robins, winning nine of our last 11 meetings, including a 5-0 triumph at the Stoke Gifford Stadium back in November.
However, wary of last season’s two costly draws against the West Country outfit, Mahon has warned against complacency, as his side seek a league and FA Cup double.
“We’re all looking forward to getting back on track,” he added. “It was difficult not having the game against West Ham at the weekend but we’re excited to pick up where we left off.
“Everyone has worked really hard over the past couple of weeks and the players are breeding confidence. We know we have to keep the momentum going because we want to finish what we started.
“We know it’s all in our hands – there’s no skirting around that – and that we can’t slip up like we did last year. We’ve put ourselves in this great position because we’re a good team. We just have to prepare right and make sure we get the results we need.
“Every game is important – no game is more of a priority than another. We had good results against Arsenal and Chelsea last year but drew twice against Bristol City, which cost us in the league.
“We know there are no easy games in the WSL. It’s good because there is so much more competition now. Bristol are a good team with some very good players so we’ll have to be on our game.
“We’re going to work really hard between now and the end of the season to finish the final third on a high.”
