The defender netted her sixth goal of the season with a fantastic volleyed finish to clinch all three points against Bristol City to secure a crucial win in the FA Women’s Super League title race.

Despite her impressive acrobatic effort, the ever-modest Bonner asserted the victory was all that mattered, hailing her teammates’ pinpoint accuracy.
“It’s nice to score!” she declared. “When you’ve got Caroline Weir delivering set-pieces, you ask her to put the ball where you want it and she’ll do it!
“It was my first touch. I didn’t really see it until the last minute but then I thought: ‘I can get on this!’ and just tried to keep it alive!
“Those balls in the box are always dangerous, and set-pieces have been important this year. We’re disappointed not to have scored more from them because they’re that good.
“For me, when there are balls like that in the box, it’s up to us to attack them.
“It was important for us and hopefully, we’ll get a few more.”
Bonner’s goal arrived inside the first two minutes and despite a dominant display, City struggled to break down a stoic Bristol defence.
However, wary of last season’s two costly draws against the Robins, Bonner insisted the manner of victory was not important.
“We looked to get off to a good start,” she reflected. “It was important we were switched on.

“Last year, we dropped points against Bristol twice so we knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game.
“We didn’t necessarily play well but we picked up three points – that was the most important thing.
“Although we kept a clean sheet, we know there are things to improve on.
“We have to keep the run going. We’ve learned lessons from last year, especially with teams like Bristol who have quick players upfront and are dangerous on the counter-attack.
“It wasn’t a pretty performance – we should definitely be more ruthless with the chances we’ve had – but three points was the most important thing.”
