It is the third time in four years the Manchester City midfielder has claimed the prestigious Golden Shoe, which is awarded to the best performing Belgian player in a calendar year.
Wullaert, the Belgium Red Flames’ captain and all-time leading scorer, enjoyed a fine 2019, in which she won a Continental Cup and FA Cup double with Nick Cushing’s side.
She ended that campaign with five goals from 30 appearances and made an equally impressive start to the current season, scoring five times in 15 games.
Amassing 220 points in the vote, the 26-year-old was the runaway leader and beat Janice Cayman and Tine De Caigny into second and third place respectively to scoop the award she also won 2016 and 2018.
It means Belgian legend Paul Van Himst is the only person in the men and women’s game to have won more Golden Shoes than Wullaert.
“I feel absolutely delighted to have won this award,” she said afterwards.
“I’m incredibly proud to represent Belgium and it is amazing to be honoured as the Player of the Year.
“2019 was a great year for me - personally and from a team point of view. To have won the Golden Shoe three times is very special and I am so happy to have completed the hat-trick!”
Everyone at Manchester City congratulates Tessa on this thoroughly deserved honour.
