City's women's team went back to school as part of Girls Football Week.

To celebrate, Karen Bardsley, Tessel Middag, Mie Jans and Abbie McManus visited Newall Green High School in Wythenshawe to take part in a Q&A with budding female footballers.

Players from Newall Green, Button Lane, St Anthony’s, Beaver Road, Sacred Heart, Ringway, St Elizabeth’s and Rackhouse Schools were invited to take part in a football festival and quiz the Blues on their careers.

The youngsters also received footballs and signed player postcards from the City quartet.

Goalkeeper Bardsley spoke of the importance Girls Football Week and similar initiatives hold.

“It’s really important to engage in the community to inspire the future generation of female professional footballers,” she declared.

“We had a lot of very excited girls - and parents! - and some great questions. They were really eager to hear what we had to say and they were having so much fun.

“It’s important that girls know football something they can aspire to have a career in when they get older.”
