17-year old Stanway opened the scoring with a goal of the season candidate in the first half before City’s place in the FA Women’s Cup quarter final was confirmed midway through the second half when substitute Parris added her name to the score sheet.
Nick Cushing handed competitive debuts to new signings Kosovare Asllani and Jane Ross, while Marie Hourihan was named on the bench.
The opening stages to the game saw a midfield battle between the two sides as they looked to gain control of the game early on.
Izzy Christiansen picked up what looked to be an ankle injury as the clocked into the tenth minute and was replaced by youngster Stanway.
Toni Duggan had City’s first shot on target shortly after as she forced Siobhan Chamberlain into an early save, one of many in the first 45 minutes.
Ross thought she had scored the opening goal of the game in the 17th minute but Chamberlain somehow managed to palm over her close range header with a magnificent one-handed save.
The Blues continued to pile on the pressure and came close again through Duggan, whose shot was just a couple of yards wide of the post before Stanway opening the scoring with a stunner.
The 17-year old picked the ball up around 35 yards from goal before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the top corner to give City the lead.
Cushing’s side would take that lead into the half time break before containing the pressure in the second half.
However, it was the hosts who created the first chance of the second 45 minutes when substitute Emma Lundh hit the upright from a tight angle.
Cushing made his second change of the game in the 60th minute when he introduced Parris for Asllani and the former Everton striker made an immediate impact.
Duggan swung a corner to the back post and the 22-year old rose highest to nod home despite the best efforts of Chamberlain in the Liverpool goal.
City continued to dominate after they extended their advantage to two goals and came close to a third on a couple of occasions.
First, Stanway saw her shot whistle over the bar after latching on to Ross’ cut back before Duggan saw her left-footed effort fly narrowly over.
Liverpool had one final chance with eight minutes to play but Lundh couldn’t get a shot on target after the ball fell kindly to her in the area.
Four minutes of added time were indicated at the end of the second half and City were able to see it out comfortably to seal a place in the quarter final of the FA Women’s Cup.
Speaking about the game, manager Cushing stated: I’m really pleased with the win. We’ve played really well in pre-season friendlies and the form continued from last season, as well. I didn’t think we were great tonight, I didn’t think we were at our best, but we won.
Commenting on Stanway’s stunner, he remarked: Georgia has got that in her locker. She needs to improve on her decision making and to develop to become the player that she potentially could be, but one thing she’s got is a goal in her.
“Every time she has played, she’s created a goal or scored and that’s why I have no worries about throwing her on. She works hard, she’ll put a tackle in, pass the ball well and score. The goal tonight was exceptional.”
As well as praising Stanway, Nick gave an update on Christiansen, who came off in the 11th minute with an injury.
He said: “She’s disappointed because had to come off early with an injury. We don’t know what the extent of it is, she’ll be in a protective boot for precaution and then she’ll be assessed by the physio and the medical team.
“We’ll get the feedback tomorrow and then we’ll see where we’re at once we’ve looked at swelling at different things on Monday.”
