Manchester City secured an impressive 5-0 win over LSK Kvinner in the Uefa Women’s Champions League.

Goals from Demi Stokes, Izzy Christiansen, Claire Emslie and two from Jane Ross made up the tally against the Norway side.

What happened

The game was a slow burner and took 20 minutes for those at the Arasen Stadion to witness the first chance of the game.

The home side enjoyed most of the early possession in the first 15 minutes, but still didn’t create many chances which meant keeper Karen Bardsley was rarely called upon.

Nikita Parris was the first to try her luck but her shot in the 21st minute sailed over the crossbar.

Next up, Christiansen attempted a volley just minutes after Parris’ overshot, but LSK ‘keeper, Fiskerstrand, comfortably caught the effort.

Then, in came Stokes just minutes after the two attempts on target to expertly drive her finish in the goal and give the visitors a 1-0 lead over LSK Kvinner.

Stokes’ goal seemed to ignite a fire within Nick Cushing’s side and the impact was instant.

The ladies’ determination was clearly visible on the pitch and just moments after Stokes’ successful strike there appeared to be attempts left, right and centre.

Megan Campbell’s curled cross found Parris and the forward’s diving header slipped inches wide of the goal post, while skipper Steph Houghton’s header looked likely to double their lead but – again - fired wide.

The second of City’s goal came shortly before the half-time whistle after the Blues were awarded a penalty due to Jane Ross being upended.

Christiansen took her place on the penalty spot and her strike was clean and determined as it shot past the goalkeeper into the bottom left-hand corner to double City’s lead.

After a dazzling end to the first-half, the second initially seemed a little more subdued until substitution Emslie fired an incredible shot which secured City’s third goal of the night.

And from then on the game was full of excitement and goals, and the home side found it difficult to respond

The Scot curled a glorious long effort into the far corner which picked up the game once more and made it 3-0 away in Norway.

Shortly after Emslie made it three, Ross added to the score sheet with a clean and polished header.

The ball was driven to the perfect spot for Ross by Abbie McManus and resulted in the fourth goal of the eventful match.

Not long after, Ross fancied another and headed home her second of the night after opening goalscorer, Stokes’, magnificent cross which made it 5-0 for the visitors.

How they lined-up

Karen Bardsley was back in goal for the second time this season.

On the backline Jen Beattie and skipper Steph Houghton held the centre while Abbie McManus and Megan Campbell took the full-back positions.

In midfield, Izzy Christiansen, Keira Walsh and Jill Scott took their places.

Nikita Parris and Demi Stokes flanked Jane Ross up front.

What’s next

Up next, Nick Cushing’s side return to the FA Women’s Super League to face Bristol City at the Academy Stadium on Sunday 12 November, before hosting LSK Kvinner for their second meeting on Thursday 16 November.
